What is the Gateway Card?

gateway card

The Gateway Card is free and will give you access to activities, play schemes and buddy schemes available through our short breaks programme.

You can register online for a Gateway Card.

There are many benefits:

  • it gives you access to range of short break activities

  • you can use your Gateway Card to book buddies through our buddy scheme

  • when you register, we will keep your details so you do not need to fill out funding forms at each activity your child attends

  • it identifies to activity providers that your child has a disability and/or additional needs and may require support to access activities

  • it helps activity providers apply for funding to support your child, such as training, resources and additional staff

  • the information you provide helps us plan short breaks so that there is a fair distribution across Hampshire

  • it helps us to work with activity providers to provide you with additional benefits, such as free places for carers andattendance to autism friendly cinema screenings and more.

Who is the Gateway Card for?

The Gateway Card is for children and young people who:

  • have a disability and/or additional needs and may require support to participate in leisure and recreation activities

  • are between 0 to 19 years old

  • live in Hampshire and/or attend a school in Hampshire (excluding Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight as they have similar schemes).

Can we access short breaks without a Gateway Card?

Yes. However, from 1 April 2012, you will be required to register for a Gateway Card to use any activities funded by our short breaks programme. So get in early and register for your card so that you can gain from the benefits of the card now.

Will we still have to pay for short break activities when we use the card?

You will have to pay the standard cost for your child to attend the activity. The Gateway Card will help activity providers apply for funding to cover any additional costs that are required for your child to participate fully.
